Review
"For this fourth version of the Reacto, Merida has looked to tip the balance away from pure aerodynamics to create a bike that has all of the DNA of a pure-bred aero machine, but is an 'all-rounder with class-leading aerodynamic performance'. The best of both worlds, then?"
-Senior Editor Warren Rossiter
The Merida Reacto 7000-E Aero Road Bike pairs an innovative new frame with high-end electronic shifting for a bike that is built to perform at the highest level. The Reacto is a high-performance aero road bike with stable ride characteristics which allows you to ride in relative comfort for such a performance focused bike. The CF3 Carbon frame and CF5 fork lays the platform for this efficient road machine, offering similar stiffness and stability as the top of the line CF5 frame, just ever so slightly heavier.
It also comes with a brand new fork design which is intelligently integrated into the frame, while the new handlebar design and removing all the cables (by completely integrating the cables into the cockpit and frame) not only looks super smooth but each integrated cable saves up to 2 watts. The Reacto 7000-E is kitted out with a 2x11 speed Shimano Ultegra Di2 Groupset with an 11-30t cassette for swift road riding. Di2 gives you instant, lightning fast shifting that is precise and controlled at the push of a button.
Also new in 2021 is the front and rear integrated disc coolers to prevent overheating so that you can get the most out of the Shimano Ultegra Hydraulic Disc Brakes. It may come standard with a DT Swiss P1800 Spline DB32 Wheelset and Continental Grand Sport Race 700x25c tyres but one of the big changes is that the new Reacto now has tyre clearance for 30mm tyres which really adds to the comfort, smoothness and stability without a significant impact on performance.
The Merida Reacto 7000-E is one heck of a ride, between the brand new frame and crisp Ultegra Di2 Groupset this bike ticks every box. This is a bike that a lightning fast yet is still stable and comfortable so that you don’t have to be uncomfortable just to maximises every watt of power.
Cable Integration
One of the key elements of the new REACTO that further improves the already impressive aerodynamic performance is the complete cable integration, hiding all cables from view and wind exposure and generating a 2 Watts saving.
Tyre Clearance
The new fork and frame allow tyres of up to 30 mm to be fitted, which besides the well- proven S-Flex seat post, further improve the comfort as well as the road grip of the new REACTO so that you can ride in comfort on rough surfaces.
Disc Cooler
The 2nd gen disc coolers are further integrated into the frame and fork to minimise drag and reduce the risk of the disc brakes overheating on long descents. The forged aluminium part under the front and rear disc brake caliper draws heat away through CNC-milled cooling fins for 35% less heat build-up and faster temperature reduction.
