Description
The Merida Silex 400 is an adventure road bike built to tackle bike paths and dirt paths with equal efficiency and control. The Silex 400 is built with a road bike style geometry and then paired with wheels, brakes and wider tyres that can go off-road and deliver a crisp riding experience. The Silex 400 is built with a lightweight alloy frame, made from Merida’s proven high-end aluminium (6066) which is extremely light and durable. Using triple butted wall thickness and hydroforming technology the aluminium tubes are tuned to give the best possible stiffness to weight ratio.
The Merida Silex 400 uses a tapered head tube to give you the ideal level of stiffness and precise steering on the gravel. Double pass welding gives the frame a sharp, carbon-like appearance while the cables are routed internally to maintain that sleek look and keep the cables safe from dirt and moisture. The high-quality alloy frame is combined with a carbon fork to reduce weight and minimise the transfer of vibration from the road.
The Silex 400 is equipped with a 2x10 speed Shimano GRX400 groupset which is made specifically for top-level performance on gravel, providing simple and reliable shifting, while the bike is also equipped with Shimano GRX400 hydraulic disc brakes so that you have control in any conditions, a noticeable improvement over rim brakes. The Merida Silex 400 is a smooth and efficient gravel bike that is ideal for riding into the unknown. With its versatility this bike makes a great commuter as well as its intended purpose as a slick adventure road bike that cane take you anywhere with smooth efficiency.
Features
Prolite 66 Triple Butted Aluminium: Our proven high-end aluminium (6066) is extremely light and durable. Using triple butted wall thicknesses and hydroforming technology, we can tune the aluminium tubes to give the best possible stiffness to weight ratio.
Carbon Fork: Carbon forks provide superb vibration damping and precise steering. All road bikes feature a full carbon fork; the steerer and fork blades are all made of carbon.
HFS - Hydro Forming System: Tubes are inserted into negative moulds and a hot emulsion of water and oil is forced through at pressure, enabling them to be formed into complex shapes.
X-Taper Headtube: Using a tapered head tube with 1 1/8" bearings in the top and 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" in the bottom creates superb stiffness and precise, confidence inspiring steering.
Smooth Welding: Sometimes called ‘double pass welding’, a second pass over the weld gives a clean organic look to the frame. At first glance you will be convinced it is carbon.
Internal Cable: Cables are routed through the frame, entering and exiting through smooth sockets. The bike looks neat, whilst the cables are protected from moisture and dirt.
Smart Entry: Cables, housings and brake hoses are clamped under tension to prevent rattling when the trail gets rough. All inlets are completely interchangeable to deal with Di2, hydraulic hoses, brake cable and gear cable housings etc.
Disc Cooler: A forged aluminium component under the front and rear caliper allowing heat to dissipate through CNC-milled cooling fins. Tests show that temperatures are reduced by around 35% and cooling times are shortened, optimising the performance of the brake.
Di2 Ready: Bikes/frames with the symbol ‘Di2 Ready’ are prepared for the installation of Di2 technology with battery mounting in the seat post or within the fork steerer.
12-142 Thru-Axle: Selected front forks use a 100 mm wide through axle 12 or 15 mm in diameter to increase lateral stiffness. A 142 mm wide 12 mm rear axle fixed directly into the frame increases rear end stiffness whilst simplifying wheel removal and replacement.
12-100 Thru-Axle: Selected front forks use a 100 mm wide through axle 12 or 15 mm in diameter to increase lateral stiffness. A 142 mm wide 12 mm rear axle fixed directly into the frame increases rear end stiffness whilst simplifying wheel removal and replacement.
F-Mount: ‘F-Mount’ equipped bikes have integrated fittings for mud guards (some bikes require model specific mud guards), making fitting fast and simple.
C-Mount: ‘C-Mount’ equipped bikes have the fixing points for a rear rack already integrated (some bikes require model specific rear rack), making fitting fast, simple and reliable.
