The Maxxis Story
Founded in Taiwan in 1967, Maxxis began as a maker of bicycle tyres and has steadily grown into one of the world’s most trusted tyre brands. Through more than 50 years, the company has expanded into automotive, off-road, motorcycle and bicycle markets across 180 countries. Every tyre benefits from real feedback from championship winners out on the world’s racing circuits and is developed in massive research and development centres staffed by chemists and engineers.
The technologies honed for top-level competition trickle down into each product range, delivering compounds, casings and tread designs that offer everyday riders superior grip, durability and confidence across dirt, gravel and road surfaces.

Why Ride Maxxis?
- Race-born compound technology compounds like 3C MaxxTerra and MaxxShield are refined under championship pressure then engineered into tyres people ride every day, giving outstanding grip without sacrificing durability.
- Aggressive tread patterns you can trust designs like large, blocky shoulders, ramped centre knobs and open tread layouts that cut into cornering and braking zones perform when the terrain is challenging.
- Tailored casings for your ride’s demands from light EXO protection to DoubleDown and Downhill casings, choose the right build for weight, trail abuse and style.
- Proven across terrain gravel, road or mountain bike trails—Maxxis uses real-world testing and racer feedback in places like Australia to ensure tyres stand up across dirt, mud, rock and tar.
Popular Maxxis Ranges Explained
Minion DHF / Minion family
The Minion line features deep channelled shoulder knobs and ramped centre tread for fast rolling with braking power. In compounds like Dual, 3C MaxxTerra and 3C MaxxGrip, these tyres handle wet, muddy or dry terrain. Great for riders who want grip up front and brutal control when leaning hard.
Crossmark II
Crossmark II is built for speed on hardpack and intermediate trail conditions. Tight centre ribs reduce rolling resistance while the revised side knobs improve cornering. Lightweight casings with EXO protection and tubeless-ready builds help you go fast without compromising reliability. Suitable mostly for cross-country but hardy enough for lighter trail duty and fast-rolling mountain bike set ups.
Refuse
Refuse is Maxxis’ rugged road and gravel offer focused on maximum puncture resistance. With the MaxxShield construction and a tough rubber compound, these folding-bead tyres give excellent mileage and traction for commuting, training or mixed surfaces.
Dissector
Dissector was developed in partnership with Troy Brosnan to balance fast rolling centre knobs with sharp braking edges. The 3C MaxxTerra compound, Wide Trail casing and EXO or DoubleDown protections make it ideal for use on rear wheels, or both wheels when you're churning through dry, dusty, loose, or rock-strewn terrain. Better suited for trail and enduro rides.
Assegai
Assegai is one of Maxxis’ grippiest Mountain Bike tyres. The 3C MaxxTerra compound, aggressive shoulder pattern and Wide Trail fit make it a top choice upfront to handle lean angles or mixed surfaces. Pair it with a faster rolling rear tyre or run both ends for maximum grip.
