Born in the 1980s BMX boom, Mongoose helped shape the sneakers-and-spandex era where rubber met dirt and young riders first tasted freedom on two wheels. Today those roots still power every bike: tough frames, bold colour, raw attitude—and gear that’s ready for a kid’s first jump, flapjack, or curb hop.
The Mongoose Story
Mongoose was founded in 1974 in California by Skip Hess, starting with MotoMag cast aluminium wheels that changed the BMX landscape forever. From there it grew into a full range of BMX and mountain bikes, racing teams and trail innovations. The design, the races, the dirt tracks—they all shaped a brand that knows what made BMX legendary.
That history matters to riders today: it means Mongoose builds with heritage-tested geometry, component durability, and a legacy of learning what really makes a bike rugged, reliable and fun. Every bike shares in that heritage—so young riders get something more than a set of wheels; they get a tough machine built from decades of jumping, racing and riding.

Why Ride Mongoose?
- Built-for-80s tested durability: Steel or chromoly frames, solid welded joints and tough finishes mean the bike handles drops and curb landings without falling apart.
- Simplified parts, serious strength: Features like hi-ten steel or chromoly cranksets, sealed bottom brackets and double-wall rims make service easy and wear tough to exploit.
- Trustworthy ride experience: Mongoose bikes keep component spec sensible—rim brakes, simple drivetrains, pedal action you can fix at home—and tyres and gearing that suit real-world paths, parks and neighbourhoods.
- Heritage inform your style: Colour palettes, graphics, geometry choices echo its BMX past so you get attitude, not just utility.
Popular Mongoose Ranges Explained
Mitygoose
The Mitygoose line gives kids turning roughly 5 to 8 years old their first real off-curb moments. These 16-inch bikes pack small-frame geometry with stabiliser repair points, tyres built to grip concrete and paths, and seats, handlebars and safety features sized for smaller hands.
Lilgoose
Lilgoose bikes shrink down the experience even further into 12-inch wheels for toddlers who need ultra-light handling and easy balance. Parents love the sturdy frames and kid-friendly controls, and young riders enjoy stability without complexity.
Racer
The Racer range uses 20-inch wheels and BMX style geometry to offer proper speed for younger riders ready for more adventure. Tougher stems, controlled riding position, solid drivetrains let kids push faster while staying safe.
Ladygoose
Ladygoose pulls from the Racer size but adds graphics, colours and saddle shaping aimed at comfort, so girls get performance plus design that reflects them. Same tough base—just more personality.
Missygoose
Missygoose offers 16-inch wheels with styling nods to Ladygoose—great if your child has finished with stabilisers but still needs lighter build, proportionate frame size and a gentle learning curve to more daring riding.
Legion
The Legion range hits the BMX scene full on with 20-inch bikes built for freestyle, park, pool and street riding. Chromoly or hi-ten frames, sealed bearings and components designed to take jumps, tailwhips and grind rails without giving in.
