Round 3 of the Sunshine Series was a long awaited race at Kenilworth. With three races (one chainless) cancelled since the start of this year it was a weekend of great anticipation and excitement for all racers. We had been waiting to race this track for a very long time!

Hello! This is Chris Fraser from 99 Bikes Newmarket here. My girlfriend Clarissa and I are going to ride our new Apollo TANDEM ROAD BIKE 200km to raise money for cancer research.

The Ride to Conquer Cancer, benefiting the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, is a cycling journey throughout Queensland scenic countryside that we're embarking on to fight cancer. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with our bike, helmets, and your generosity, a real impact will be made!

DelXC 6 Hour

Being ANZAC day the race was started with The Last Post which was a nice touch and the silence with just the clicking of the pedals prior to the start siren was an eerie reminder of how lucky we are.

The track is set on a private property 26km outside Warwick and in its second year drew just over 100 competitors. The track consisted of mainly single track carved through the bush with a variety of elements including granite rock gardens and twisting switch back climbs.

Nerang Under 19 Support Criterium

The combination Masters A, Elite B and Elite A was a recipe for a hard race at the physically challenging Nerang course. Attacks came early in the race which had Paul chasing down and saw Rick joining a break away for a while to be chased down by the pack.

Hard man James did the majority of the work at the front putting the sting into the hill climb and taking the edge off many rival sprinters and near the end of the race the attrition was evident.

Toowoomba Criterium

Recently Toowoomba held the Tour of Toowoomba, with several criteriums held on the Sunday in support of the final criterium for the Tour. The 99 Bikes Team consisting of James, Michael and Stephen braced the cooler weather to compete in a combined Elite A, Elite B and Masters A race which was sure to be quick.

Avanti Classic

The Avanti Classic handicap has a different race format to other road races. Riders of similar ability are sent off in small groups of 10 with the slower riders starting first and the fastest groups following up to 32 minutes later with the winner being first rider across the line.

Metro's Road Race

The second half of the Metropolitan Championships involved a road race based from the town of Mt Alford, south of Boonah. A few more of the team made the trip out including Tom racing in Elite C, and Paul, Jimmy, and Rick in Elite B grade with Michael deciding to rest after his recent efforts. Both races would include 4 laps of a testing 23km course with short steep hills and a flat fast finish.

Metropolitan Criterium Championships

The Metropolitan Championships were held over the weekend, with Saturday’s criterium held at Murarrie, including the QLD U19 state crit champs.

Two of our fellow 99’ers were out to compete that day, one being Michael Hill – competing in his first Elite B Grade Race after successful racing in Elite C, and our youngest member, Tom Miller – racing in the U19 Division.

KWT Maxxis Sunshine Series Round 1, Blackstone

Round one of the KWT Maxxis Sunshine Downhill Series was finally held on Sunday the 22nd of May after 2 previous rounds were cancelled. The event was scheduled to be held in Kenilworth after it had been put back due to weather. Two days before the race the clouds rolled in again and a last minute venue change had to happen. The new venue was Blackstone in Ipswich, a lot closer for all of the Brisbane riders.

Battle on the Border

The Labour Day long weekend saw the team head to Northern NSW to race in both Elite C and Elite B grades at the QSM Battle on the Border. Only in its third year, the 3 day, 4 stage race made up of an individual time trial, two tough hilly road races, and a crit is quickly becoming a favourite on the race calendar.
